For the first time, Loft Master Systems is running on the same hardware it's meant for -- a touchscreen mounted right in the loft, not a demo on a laptop. This week's milestone was getting it fully wired up and put through its paces on a real unit, then filming the whole thing so anyone curious about what this actually looks like day to day doesn't have to take it on faith. The videos walk through the home screen, the bird registry, settings, and the network status the unit reports back -- the same screens a fancier would actually tap through between rounds. Nothing staged, nothing mocked up. What's on screen is what's really running. Two smaller things came out of testing that mattered more than they sound. The kiosk has no physical keyboard, so every text field -- a bird's name, a member's info, a WiFi password -- now has its own on-screen keyboard built right in, sized for a touchscreen instead of squeezed to fit. And the display now sleeps after a few idle minutes and wakes instantly on a tap, the way any device meant to run in a loft around the clock should, instead of burning a panel staring at the same screen all day. None of this is glamorous. It's the unglamorous work of taking something that worked on a development machine and making sure it actually holds up on the hardware a fancier would really have sitting on a shelf -- and it has to happen before anything else does.
